Look up First Justice Families of Eastern Kentucky

Submitted by Thomas Harold Justice . I twill give you the whole picture. The Justices of Charles City are a different line of Justices from the ones born in Massachusetts, that moved to Halifax Virginia.

Everything in the top portion of this blog post is based on O Neil Justice's books "The Justice Family in Virginia." While Neil was an incredible reseacher, He himself admitted to the lack of records. He said "There is only one single record in the Charles City County Order Book 1737-1751 about 3John Jr., and it reflects his sale of the "home place" preparatory to leaving Charles City County forever," (Page 101 September 1739 Court)Neil switches from his source laden writing to speculation based on the Will of "A" John Justice who died in 1766 in Halifax County, Virginia.
New information came to light after O Neil's work was published. That is the discovery of a Justice family in Massachusetts, where the father's name was John Justice who was also born about 1695. He married an Irish girl named Mary More [Moore] 1 August 1728 in the town of Scituate. Early Massachusetts had wonderful records and you can see the original birth records and transcriptions of their children's births.
Here is the correct children list and birth order:
1. Mary b. 1729 Wife of George Green.
2. John Justice Jr b. 1731
3. Simeon b. 1735
4. Thomas b 1737
5. Elce - Alice b 1739 wife of Thomas Watson.
6. Elisabeth b 1741 d. ? before 1766
7. William b. 1743 (records for baptism
8. Israel - Ezra b. abt 1745
All were born in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, except Ezra whose birthdate and place are unknown. If you compare the names from the Will and the names in the birth records they same, with two exceptions Elisabeth is missing, presumed dead before 1765, and Ezra the youngest has been added. How is it possible that this is not the same family that came from Massachusetts?
More proof that these are two separate unrelated families. Steve Fanning, Administrator for the Justice Family DNA Project told me that they have proven that the Charles City County Justices are genetically unrelated to the Halifax, Virginia Justices.

By the way, the "First Justice Families of Eastern Kentucky" by Thomas Harold Justice is how I first learned about the Justice family. His writings are just as source laden as O Neil Justice's, he with Terry Anderson just happened to find the Justice family in Massachusetts. Check out his paper http://pikecounty.potterflats.com/justice.htm

I first became interested in the Justice family when searching for my Green ancestors years ago. I eventually realized that Mary Justice Green was not the mother of Jarvis Green because I have very strong DNA marker cousins with the descendants of Jarvis Green, without any other of my ancestral lines connected to them, but have no DNA connection to any Justices. Though I have no more interest in who John Justice was, after all of these years I still have no proof either way of which John was correct since the DNA matches don’t go beyond John’s generation. I have found so many families with children with the same names scattered all over America that aren’t connected in any way, that simply is not proof.
